THE ART OF
RECONDITIONING

Transforming a used piano into a piano that is as good as new – the impossible now made possible. The restoration technique has been perfected by our craftsmen over the years, reconditioning pianos that are even 50 years old. The following outlines some of the steps:

  • Action: damper felts and bridle straps are all replaced / centre pins and spring are to be replaced if necessary / action wood entities are cleaned and burnished one by one, etc.

  • Keyboard: white toppings are either polished with machine thoroughly or replaced / surface of key wood is burnished, etc.

  • Soundboard will be treated with utmost complicated procedure – old painting will be removed and burnished, and finally finished with re-painting.

  • Tuning pins and strings: usually they are ‘re-livened’ by wire brush, but could be replaced upon request / metal plate will be re-painted, etc.

  • Pedals: pianos with only 2 pedals will be changed to 3 pedals.

OUR UNIQUE
POLISHING
TECHNIQUE

To stay ahead of our competitors, we are the only factory that insists on a perfect polish on the entire case. There is no compromise, and the finish stands up to any competition. We remove the left-over paint and re-coat the case with polyurethane (PU). This process is extremely labour-intensive and time-consuming – a process seen only in manufacturer of new pianos. Quality inspection ensures that the new coat comes out evenly on every single piano. One can hardly distinguish a new piano from our pianos!

The polish is the first thing a buyer looks at, even before trying on the piano. A good polish adds value to the instrument. When compared to another piano with a less than perfect polish, the difference is staggering.

VOICING AND
REGULATIONS

Asia Piano Japan insists on fully regulating each piano before they are shipped – the same process found in manufacturing new pianos. With the active participation of our technical consultant, Mr. Ernest So, who is in his own right an internationally acclaimed concert pianist, our works of regulations can meet even the most professional standard.

As we understand well the need for pre-sales tuning from our past experience with buyers, each piano goes through thorough tunings before packing. This is to make sure that when a buyer receives a piano from us, time-consuming procedures such as tuning and regulating will be as minimal as possible.

QUALITY

CONTROL

APJ’s technical team and quality-control are led, supervised and monitored by pianist Ernest So. We believe that the most appropriate assessment of a piano comes from the most demanding and professional pianist. We aim at enhancing our quality by bringing artistry into such secular realms as business and mechanics. Whenever we, are doing business, we are also doing business with people who appreciate art and music. You would not encounter a technical team elsewhere who place artistry as the first priority in the process of quality-control!
